Managing a 1.3 million item collection for a large school district in the nation is
a daunting task, extremely fascinating intellectually, and a terrific means of
observing what educators and scholars are doing in the public education program. I
cannot imagine organizing such a collection without the Dewey Decimal
Classification schedule. I do admit I detest the constant reclassification
required by Dewey users but with today's use of inserting hyper-links of all kinds
of URLs (lesson plans galore, etc.) within the digital library index without a
Dewey system to guide users to wanted information strikes me as absurd.
