http://www.theteacherscorner.net/calendars/may.htm has a calendar of events and 
some author birthdays.  school.discoveryeducation.com/schrockguide/authordate.html 
and www.kidsreads.com/authors/author-bdays.asp are good sources for authors whose 
birthdays occur in a given month.  (I use this information in a monthly bulletin 
board and "books of the month" display.)
