[LM_NET] READ CD + PAINT.net

Sorry to post one more message about the ALA Read CD... but has anyone tried
using PAINT.net  with this??  It is a free download that seems to have some
of the elements of PhotoShop [although I know nothing about PhotoShop - and
don't want to buy it]  I can use the lasso and the magic wand, but still
seem unable to 'cut' the background away from the picture.  If you have used
this program could you please share - whether this can be done?  or any
other useful tips?
