[LM_NET] HIT: character compare and contrast

My original target:

I am looking for some picture books that would be good for comparing and 
contrasting characters.  I want to compare and contrast characters within a book, 
not from book to book.  Hondo & Fabian would be an example, but I am looking for 
something that has more developed characters.

Big mouth and Ugly girl is goo, the Hosue of Scorpion, or Eragon it depends on what 
age range you're looking for. 

You don't say the age group, but I use Horton Hatches an Egg (Suess) with lower 
elementary - Maizie the bird and Horton the elephant offer a great contrast and 
both are very extreme in their characteristics.  Please share any other good ideas 
you get!

Cinda Edna(Can't remember the author)  It compares and contrasts CInderella to the 
character Cinder Edna- It would be terrific for this

How about comparing Lilly against Chester and Wilson (who are just alike) in 
Chester's Way by Kevin Henkes? It's very funny, and the characters are all strong. 
Chester & Wilson do everything exactly the same, they have their routine, and they 
like it that way, while Lilly is creative and outrageous and bold. FUN book.
 
You could also compare Bear and Mouse in Bonny Becker's A Visitor for Bear, which 
is completely wonderful. Bossy, cranky bear, and persistent, friendly mouse. Also, 
very fun book.
 
And one more great choice would be Diane Stanley's Saving Sweetness. It's a funny 
one that contrasts a brave, clever girl with a sheriff who's a little dense. :)

One I can think of off the top of my head is Pink and Say by Patricia Polacco or 
Nana Upstairs and Nana Downstairs by Tomie de Paola.

How about "Help I'm a Prisoner in the Library."  The sisters in the book 
are good for a compare/contrast study and it is a quick chapter book to 
read.
