I'm sorry for not posting this a bit earlier, but I just wanted to
share the response that an eighth grade social studies class had to
this amazing book. The students were completely intrigued by it and
groups jockeyed for position to pore over the articles and pictures.
The assignment was for groups to present either a skit or PowerPoints
highlighting Lincoln's life and death. The teacher was so pleased with
the enthusiasm and creativity of the kids. She shared the PowerPoints
with me and apologized for not getting me down to see the skits. While
she did have other print biographies of Lincoln's life available, the
hands-down star of the show was Denenberg's Lincoln Shot!
If you haven't seen it (it has received a fair number of starred
reviews), do take a look at it and don't be intimidated by its large
size. It is well worth the investment. When my two copies come back to
the library, one will most likely reside open on the atlas stand and
one on a display stand.
