My general impression regarding circulation is that there has been quite
a surge that has been building over the last few years. I have 538
students at my high school and I have nearly 1000 books that have been
signed out to date. The Twilight series and the books by Ellen Hopkins
have certainly been major contributors, but I have been seeing quite a
variety of books "fly off the shelf".
When I do my general reading orientation for my 8th graders I have been
seeing quite a change. Normally when I ask which class members like to
read, I may have a few timid hands come up. The "reading is boring"
group almost always predominates. The reaction I had this year was just
the opposite.
I would like to know if you are experiencing something similar and to
what do you attribute this change?

"It was as though I had been dying of thirst and the librarian had
handed me a five gallon bucket of water. I drank and drank. The only
reason I am here and not in prison is because of that woman. I was a
loser, but she showed me the power of reading."
