This is good practice whether there are problems with your circulation
system or not. More than once I've caught kids sneaking overdue books
back onto the shelves. Having just checked the shelf will also answer
the parent who calls and asks, because you can then honestly tell the
parent that you already HAVE checked the shelf, and the book isn't there.
