I have an interview with a small school in rural Tennesee. A Junior High, 7th and
8th graders, population of school around 325 students. In my initial conversation
with the principal, he told me that all students are scheduled in the media center
twice per week. He said one visit is usually a skills class, and the other a
reading motivation or book selection visit. The school has AR. He said Mon - Thurs
are scheduled classes all day, and Friday is open checkout.
I'm sort of from the "Flex Scheduling" school of thought, so I'd appreciate some
insight as to what might be the theory behind this practice. I certainly enjoy
teaching the kids, but find that when the library skills classes are integrated
into the content areas, the result is more productive.
Thanks for you insight!
