Very true. There are a variety of different companies that are exclusive vendors
in schools and are chosen by the principal using God-only-knows-what rationale (in
my district, anyway). If Scholastic isn't allowed in your building because it is a
monopology, each of the vendors who provide items such as class rings and pictures
should have to submit a bid each year and the principal should be obligated to
choose the lowest one regardless of the "perks" offered.

Stopping the bookfair does not seem legal. If this is true, then should we also
not stop companies from taking pictures, selling school rings and yearbooks, etc.?
I am an elected school board member in the county I live in and thought I have
heard it all. I would challenge the decision of the lawyer (which may or may not
be of help) and suggest the hauling of all the other services in the county. Like
Toni, if the problem is with Scholastic, have the parent suggest other companies.
You can remind the parent that they do not have to participate in the activity!!!!
Ignorance is not Bliss!!!!
