Greetings!
I'm hoping you can help me generate a list of titles and authors. My
seventh and eighth grade ELA teachers want to teach a literature unit that
helps students better understand the culture of the Middle East in general.
Granted that there are dozens of distinct cultures in the Middle East, but
they feel that they won't be able to find enough works if they concentrate
on just one country.
I'm looking for a list of titles or authors who write from a Middle Eastern
perspective. I don't want books written by westerners that are set in the
Middle East. Hopefully we can give the kids a list of works that they can
read to fulfill the requirements of the project. Don't worry if the title
you have in mind isn't appropriate for middle schoolers - we can still use
it. We're going to excerpt those aimed at a more mature audience and use
them for ELA-style quizzes.
I've got some of the poetry of Naomi Shihab Nye, but can anybody give me a
hand with other authors/titles?
