Here are some links to websites with "great first lines..."

Also, I have a book (found at a garage sale for .50 cents--- it looked
to be untouched---best little deal in a long time) entitled:
"Great Beginnings" by Georgianne Ensign (c)1993--- it's a book that
captures the opening lines of some of the greatest novels. She also
wrote one called " Great Beginnings and Endings" which gives both the
best of both ends of the book. You can still find them (used or new)
on Amazon (or in someone's garage sale for .50 cents if you're
careful!)
