Until the magazine holder for that magazine is full. :-) For a monthly
magazine, it's usually two years. For a weekly, it's about every six
months.
3 years
2 years
I throw out all "popular" magazines (like SI for Kids, Nickelodeon) at the end of
the school year. I keep Dig and other one-subject periodicals for as long as they
stay together.
1 magazine file box for each title and until that box is full. I do not throw away
KIDS DISCOVER, COBBLESTONE, FACES, CALLIOPE
We keep it the current year and one year after that.
I'm at the MS/HS level, not elementary, but I keep them five years. I
keep the back issues in boxes, with anywhere from six months to three
years per box. Everything in the box has to be over five years old
before I remove it.
Those magazines to be discarded are put out for anyone to take. After a
week or so whatever is left goes to the dumpster.
My district (Laurel School District, Laurel, MS) says 5 years.
