Each teacher at our school was assigned a committee to serve on during this school
year and my committee is to look at the way classes are divided for the coming
year. We've tried it several different ways and the committee wants to come up
with a policy for balanced classes.

Who divides the classes at your school? Principal, teachers, counselor, a committee?
What is the basis of the division? Academic? If so, what do you base your decision
on? Classroom grades. standardized testing, other avenues?
Are behavioral or special student needs considered too?
Do you take parent requests? If so, how is it handled when more parents request a
particular teacher or two students who do not do well request the same teacher?
Do you have a written policy?
Is there something else you can think of that we need to consider?

We have several ideas, but I would like to hear from other schools in how this is
handled at your site. Our committee meets again on Tuesday.
Please respond to me off list.
