I am a teacher who became a school librarian. However, I think both are equally
important. The work with the students is more urgent - they need it when they are
in the library, but if I haven't done the necessary "library work," my students
won't be able to find what they need.
I don't use "shelf ready" processing, mainly because I found that I had to redo
much of what I received to meet our needs. The company doesn't know which books
need to go in my Junior Fiction section, for beginning chapter books, etc.
As for teachers who complain that I have too much free time (but somehow I still
seem to have to be here early, stay late, and work weekends), I explain that my
aide and I do everything the public library does, PLUS teach!
