I'm a 50-50 person. I tell all my administrators that half of my job is
working with students and the other half is working with books. I do most of
the working with books after school, during lunch and first thing in the
morning before my classes start. I drop whatever I might be working on to
help a teacher or student and I have all my classes once a week on a fixed
schedule. I inherited my three elementary libraries 22 years ago and at that
point I spent hours processing, etc. Now I choose my vendors carefully so
all the processing matches call numbers, etc. we have in place in all the
libraries. I have an para in each building and they do all overdues, much of
the processing; but, I want my database, call numbers, etc. accurate and
up-to-date so I oversee it all. How can I teach my students to be wise users
of information if the information I have available for them is inaccurate?

So I'll ride the fence on this one, and once again I'll feel like
SuperLibrarian and do it all. I don't know any other way and wouldn't want
to lessen the responsibilities I place upon myself. I love this job, the
best of both worlds, working with people of all ages and books.
