I always try to impress upon my students that looking at the number of pages
in a book doesn't mean anything - font size, margins, etc. can vary. I'm
planning my freshman orientation presentations for next week, and I started
wondering if anyone ever created a site with a word count for books. If I
could show them a book that looks "thick" and has a lot of pages, but
actually there are less words to read than a thinner book - maybe I could
put a dent in the age-old quest for the thinnest book in the library. Or at
least make a point.

Depressing what we have to do these days to encourage reading!
