The real value I see in this discussion is that all of us are
learning additional ways to deal with the silliness and giggles that
occur as children encounter pictures in a variety of wonderful
books. It's always good to learn how someone else deals with a
situation we've all encountered. This is an example of the how this
world-wide community of library media people can be extremely useful
to each of us. Personally I've used the "do you wear clothes in the
bathtub", "did you have clothes on when you were born" and "has
anyone had a little brother or sister run out of the bathroom or
bedroom naked" with my students. I"ve also done the "you are too
immature to look at these books if you are giggling this much" line
and the explanation of nudity in art. These techniques work, they
get the students settled down and they provide a needed perspective
to those students. As a life-long learner I always hope to learn new
things here on LM_Net, and I'm rarely disappointed.
