Dear LM_NETTERS

My PTA has offered to buy dictionaries for the second grade. I've found
one suggested by my reading coach that might work, but it doesn't seem
to be for sale in the US, only in countries where "color" is "colour."
It is the Collins Primary Illustrated Dictionary [new edition] 2005
ISBN:978-0-00-720385-7. The definitions are written in full sentences
to help the learner understand the meaning of the word and to model how
to use the word correctly. Any thoughts on how to order these from the
UK would be appreciated. My only reservation (other than the fact that
I can't get anyone to sell them to me) is that there may be too many
non-American spellings for 2nd graders. What do you think? There is a
harder version of this dictionary that will be available in the US in
October. It is the Collins COBUILD School Dictionary of American
English 1st Edition  © 2008 ISBN: 1424007879. The reading coach has
asked the PTA to buy one of these harder dictionaries for each K-5
classroom teacher. She also wants eight for each 4th and 5th grade
classroom. The PTA meets Monday night and is ready to spend some money.
I'll appreciate any help you can give me to locate/identify a good
dictionary for 2nd grade.
