I usually don't get involved in these type of discussion, but this time I've read
all of this and the book. The book was entertaining and fun to read. In my opinion
it wasn't any more controversial than C.S. Lewis' books or the Harry Potter books
or any other fantasy book. It was a good read. I enjoyed the story--I didn't read
'God' into it at all. I'm wondering if someone (Hollywood?) decided that a little
controversy would improve the box office and possibly the sale of the book. Look
what happened to the Harry Potter books and the movies. With all of this going on
the producers of the movie and Pullman are going to laugh all the way to the bank.
I wonder if Snopes will get a cut? ;-)

LMNetters,
I don't know if any of you have seen this email regarding The Golden Compass
movie and the series by Pullman, but it is being widely circulated in my area. I
received an email today from a good friend who now lives in Australia. She has
received the same communication. I would suggest that you check out the link,
which is to Snopes.com. I suspect that this may more controversial than anything
we've ever dealt with concerning Harry Potter--including the infamous Onion
article. As we all know, it is better to be prepared. Please read below:

Subject: FYI: The Golden Compass
Spread the word: Check this out on Snopes at the link below.

This is about a movie that is coming out around Christmas that is aimed at children
but should not be watched! It is written by an atheist and is about killing God.
Read the snopes article attached. -----
Info everyone needs to know about an upcoming movie.
