Thanks to all who responded to my query on what MG would look like in the 21st
century. Here is the requested hit. Now to synthesize it all into something I can
come up with a live with. Meanwhile, this has given me an idea for a tech-library
connection project.
Well, she might be wearing an IPod and/or carrying a Blackberry. She would
be using the Microwave to cook her precooked family meals: Family Size
Stouffer's Lasagna, for example. She would use her Blackberry to check off
her chores and "kids" and her bonnet would be strictly avant garde, maybe
even that of a Red Hatter. Her books would include graphic novel versions
of the rhymes, and e-books at that. She would wear Crocs on her feet for
greater comfort, and perhaps a workout suit, at the least Slinky garments
for comfort sake.
Hmmm! Maybe she would have on contacts, or at the most reading glasses of
the mini-sized, dollar store variety.

This doesn't really answer your question, BUT ... I absolutely love the
book "The Neighborhood Mother Goose" by Nina Crews. The traditional
rhymes are illustrated with photos showing kids of all ethnicities, many
in urban settings. I use it ALL the time! It definitely updates the
classic nursery rhymes.

Still in dress but with Ipod and the glasses that shade in the sun. Maybe tricked
out like a Second Life character-complete with blue hair and goose wings...

She would definitely listen to her rhymes on an I-Pod and carry a cell
phone...:)

Mother goose would definitely tell her stories in a more hip-hop
style--she might even do a rap of her story. Maybe she carries CDs of
her stories (which, of course, she sells as a money maker). She would
have to wear her USB to keep track of all the stories. I see her dressed
with a short jacket (either a vest type or croped jacket) to coordinate
with her outfit.

She definitely does not have a lot of kids. Probably just 2.5.
She is not as plump as she use to be and does not wear an apron or
glasses. (contacts are much better)
I think her webbed feet should have a French Manicure and Father Goose
should be right there with her!

make her look like Jean Luc Picard in when he's "Locutus of Borg" but with a
happy spin.

Here are some ideas that I had: Her clothes are probably not
old-fashioned with an apron and all - she wears more trendy clothes (of
course with popular brand names to help advertise her 'coolness'). She
carries the following items with her...just in case:
- an iPod (favorite nursery rhyme tunes, podcasts of other fairy tale
friends, etc.) - though she is considering an iPhone
- a cell phone (with camera and bluetooth) - she doesn't talk much on
it...mainly texts
- several pen drives (one is never enough) - one is on a lanyard so
she can wear around her neck
- a gaming magazine (so she can learn all the latest hints about
Second Life, Guitar Hero, etc.)
- a laptop (she's very mobile)
- a satellite Internet card...you never know when you need to check
your MySpace page
- a laser pointer - even though she doesn't use it in presentations a
whole lot, she does like to use it when she goes to a concert
- she might be wearing the wheelie shoes...if they come with
orthopedic support
- her watch has GPS tracking
- a bottle of aspirin for when her thumbs start aching from too much
texting
When she's not texting, chatting, social networking, twittering,
wiki-ing, blogging, or podcasting, she enjoys sitting on her favorite
couch reading...an e-Book of course ;-)

I'm thinking she would be "Totally Wired"

Mother Goose would podcast her stories and walk around with a Bluetooth
headset.

Hmmm...MG would probably go by MG....I'm imagining a big gold "MG" on a
chain. Sporting an iPod with all of her stories on it. And, with an iPod
recorder so that she can record new stories on the go as she gets a
creative spark! Plus, an iPhone...that's how she checks her blog and
responds to children who write in and help her write her stories, while
she's on the go.

I think the modern Mother Goose doesn't carry a book with her stories, she
carries a laptop with the stories on DVD or a CD. It would be neat to see
the traditional looking Mother Goose with a modern way to tell her stories
to kids.

I would create her as an avatar in Second Life.

I would guess she might have power jets rather than use her wings and she would
def. be a multi-tasker... phone, ipod earbuds, camera etc all attached to her. Her
nursery rhymes would be rap songs rather than melodic. She is aware of safety
first and wears a helmet and knee pads in case she has a crash landing

Mother Goose drives a mini-van. Her passengers include young Jack
Horner, Mary (of the little lamb fame), Little Miss Muffet, and Jack
Sprat and his misses are in the 3rd row seat. By the way, the dog (of
bare cupboards fame) is along for the ride too. Anyway, Mrs. Goose
looks like most contemporary soccer mom types. She totes the kids
around to events, juggles commitments, carries an iPhone, and manages a
crazy personal schedule of work and volunteering

Well, I think MG would definitely continue to ride on her
gander....because he is definitely economical, just as safe as any
other mode of transportation, and undoubtedly earth-friendly. She
doesn't have a big "bulky" book with her much anymore, but rather has
downloaded her nursery rhymes and stories onto a variety of e-products
which she can easily carry with her (for example, an iPod, a flash
drive, an MP3 player, and perhaps even a Sony eBook). Her cell phone
is also used for 'capturing' ideas for new rhymes and the crazy
characters that might portray them (through digital photography and
video). She also uses it for scheduling her "goose landings" and
visits with children around the country.
MG wears clothing that is recycled from a variety of different
products because just as we have often "recycled" her nursery rhymes
and songs, she thinks that it's great to re-use products that were
once something else. (see recycled clothing sites:
http://www.treehugger.com/fashion_beauty/ ) In fact, not since the
1970's has MG seen such a "rebirth" in the use of Mother Nature's
creations!! This, coupled with high-technology, seems to make MG a
"tree-hugging techno geek."
Balancing the two worlds (nature and technology) seems to be easy for
MG, because she knows that in order to keep her work "fresh" and "new"
every generation, she must re-invent herself. So, with one foot in
the past (nature) and one foot in the future (technology), MG works to
create a virtual world of nursery rhymes and stories that become
interactive for children. Rhymes are no longer just spoken or sung,
but instead have a life of their own! Through 'virtual gaming' system
technology, nursery rhymes become activities for children to explore
and learn.
What was the historical significance of "Jack and Jill?" What was
the story beind "As I was Going to St. Ives?" Children can enter the
nursery rhyme at different stages through a portable gaming system
(much like a hologram) to initially learn the rhyme, then as they
grow older they learn the historical significance of the
material....the rhymes never grow old. Through "Virtual Gaming
Nursery Rhyme Naming" children learn much more than just fun
songs....they actually learn history and even WHO the REAL Mother
Goose is!!

I would imagine she listens to rhymes on her iPod!

Just in case some of you are also interested in at 21st Century adaption
of Mother Goose, I offer the following suggestions.
According to some traditions, Mother Goose was 42 when she passed away
and is buried in Massachusetts. Check the Mother Goose website for
information.
There are traditional elements that need to be included in the costume,
according to the Mother Goose Society. The hat, apron, comfortable
shoes, and shawl.
Since she was 42, I would make the following suggestions:
Get the hat that Madam Hooch wore in the Harry Potter movie. It is more
fashionable than the regular witch's hat.
Wear a white poet's shirt, a bright mostly red shawl, blue denim pants
that come below the knees and comfortable knee high boots.
Carry a large red purse with a stuffed goose in it, and instead of an
apron, wear a waist purse for you wallet, etc.
Curl your hair, if you can, and wear red reading glasses on your nose.

She probably looks like Bjork (sp ?) at the Academy Awards a few years
ago. . .do you remember? She had a dress of feathers with the "halter"
part of it looking like a swan or goose's head and neck wrapped around her
shoulders!
