[LM_NET] TAR:Elem: Preview Boxes

I have not accepted a preview box for many years due to a) lack of  
funding; b) a locally written circulation system that makes it  
slightly harder to request MARC records, i.e., having to fill out a  
form or explain to a salesperson and hope that the disk or CD comes  
with the correct info; and c) lack of time to sit down to get the job  
done. It has just been easier to use the reviews provided by major  
jobbers and work on my order list electronically by using jobber  
websites.

I also used to let students help me to preview the books (library  
club, other interested students who wanted to get together during  
recess, etc.). Have any of you done this this successfully and do you  
have any special method that you use when you let the kids look  
through the box? It is almost the flip side of having students use  
that weeding form that someone provided to LM_Net readers and I would  
like to show the students how to evaluate these books more critically.

I would just be interested in any new versions of this idea or any  
forms that someone has already created, if willing to share.
