This is a resend of a previous post that came out all gobble-de-gook. I am sending
this as plain text in hopes that helps.
In the previous three years I have been at this school, "computer" was taught as a
standalone subject. Finally, a new principal has arrived who is ending this
practice and insisting that technology be integrated into classroom instruction as
it should have been all along. However, the staff, as you might expect, is rather
panicked at the thought. A new computer lab has been added to the building and I am
part of the team that is designing an in-service for teachers on how to use this
new resource.
One of the handouts the principal wants me to put together for this meeting is a
list called "20 Simple Ideas for Things You Can Do in the Computer Lab with Your
Students." Before I reinvent the wheel, does anyone have anything like this or have
some great ideas I can include? I will definitely share the completed list with all
of you.
Examples of what I'm thinking of:
1. Students can word process a story or report.
2. Students can visit previewed, bookmarked websites that relate to a current topic
of study.
3. Teachers can teach students to use software programs as a group, then have
students practice individually.
Simple, basic stuff, not too age/grade specific, although some of that is good, too
(we're trying to get K teachers to understand that even the simplest activities
allow children to develop and practice keyboard and mouse skills).
Thanks so much for any and all suggestions!
