Greetings from DC.
Quite a busy few weeks with plenty of new resources and that wonderful
note from Esther Schnaidman on the list about Ask.com.
As many of you know (I have been posting on LM-NET for years), I am
both a librarian and Director of Online Information at Ask.com.
I have several responsibilities including reaching out specifically to
the school librarian community. I did some of this last week at the
Internet@Schools West Conference and the week before that with several
hundred school media people in Harftford.
If you couldn't make it to these conference, I would be more than
happy to set-up some times to give those of you interested group or
one-on-one tours.
Invite who you like.
Just dial-in, listen, and of course, share your views. We can take
care of the tech on the Ask.com end. All you'll need is a web
accesible computer and phone.
Otherwise, we can go one-on-one. One feature I like talking about
these days is with AskCity and our search inside feature.
You can learn more here.

Another useful search, try a music group or performer and look for the
popular tracks in the right rail and of course all of the bio info up
top. Here's an example, a search for Aaron Copland.

Esther, to be specific, we first started airing the ads in August and
we posted/mentioned them on ResourceShelf. Btw, ResourceShelf is
independent of my work at Ask.com and as many of you know we post as
much about other search tools as we do about Ask.com. If you haven't
seen a commercial yet, you can see one here. No voice-over, just the
sound of a typing keyboard.

Before we get to some new and hopefully useful resources, a question
for the list.
We have heard from a few school librarians and others that they are
unable to access Ask.com and AskForKids in their schools. If you have
a problem, usually a filtering issue, I would appreciate if you would
let me know AT MY Ask.com address: gary.price@ask.com
Thanks! The school media and library world does have the attention of
the entire Ask.com staff and we want to be as useful to you as
possible. As a librarian, for me, it's all about using the correct and
best tool and the right time.
Now, some recent ResourceShelf (NON-Ask.com) entries.

Subject: Share: ASK commercial
I don't know how long these commercials have been out, but this is the
first time I have seen any kind of promo for this wonderful search
engine. I was thrilled to see it being promoted on TV. I have been a
media specialist for the past 9 years and have always instructed the
kids to use TEOMA( now it is ASK.com) whenever they search the
Internet. I have even given teacher workshops on the usage of ASK
over google. I used to have a difficult time convincing the kids to
try it since they only hear about google. Once they see a side by
side search with google, they are quickly convinced that ASK offers a
richer search.
