I have checked the archives, but have apparently not hit on the right
search term if this has been discussed before. I found quite
insightful discussions on whether or not to have adapted or abridged
classics in the library but I am not finding any answers on this
other issue.
If you place your classics and adapted classics in your fiction or
juvenile fiction section, do you use the original author or the
adaptor's name as the spine label? Kids using the online catalogue
to find a book will obviously have fewer problems with them no matter
how you label them, but I'm thinking of the casual browser who thinks
"I know the author's name, I'll just go to the shelf" and then
doesn't see those adaptations because they are shelved by the
adaptor's last name.
Do any of you have a separate section for adapted classics or does
everyone just put classics in the 800's of your Dewey stuff?
TIA for your help and wisdom!
