My original post is followed by the suggestions I received. Thank you again
to everyone for their ideas. We decided to use The Kite Fighters by Linda
Sue Parks. We plan to end with an evening of kite flying! If anyone has
any suggestions for discussion questions, activities, etc. that would be
appropriate for this book, I'd love to hear about them. Thank you!

Original Post:

I am looking for a great book for a summer parent/child book club. Ideally,
the book would be about 150 pages (we'd like to meet three times),
appropriate for higher-level rising 5th graders, and something that will
stimulate discussion among family members. I would appreciate any
suggestions you can offer and will post a hit! Thank you,

Suggestions:

Drums, Girls and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick

Baby by Patricia MacLachlan

Rules by Cynthia Lord

Day of Tears by Julius Lester Cindy Culp

Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

A Dog Called Grk by by Joshua Doder

Theodosia and the Serpents of Chaos by R.L. LaFevers

Hope Was Here, by Joan Bauer

Becoming Naomi Leon by Pam Munoz Ryan

The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo

Firegirl by Tony Abbott

The Seven Wonders of Sassafras Springs by Betty G. Birney

Thank you again!
