As a 28 yer old who has a myspace this question could never be answered briefly.
There are simply too many factors that could or could not upset you as a parent.
However I firmly believe that if you child wants one all you have to do is say
"fine but write down your password because I will be checking it whenever I want."
Your 12 year old does not need access to something like that, used in your house
and on your computer with out you being able to monitor it as you see fit. So I say
go ahead and let him get one just make sure you can log on and take a look from
time to time. My media aide just did the same thing, she put a piece of paper in
front of her 14 year old and said if you want to keep your myspace write down your
password and he did.
Off my soapbox
