I know there is a lot on this topic in the archives, but I have a specific
question. My VHS tapes are highly disorganized. This is my 1st year in an
elementary library and they are classified with a prefix of AV then a number
which appears to be order of accession. Anyway, as I am getting ready to
automate, I'm not going to go through and redo them until I get to them in
my automation process. However, I do have some new VHS tapes that I need
to put in the closet and I want to go ahead and do them right.
I have several Cyberchase videos ordered by a teacher. This is a math
series by PBS. My plan was to use the prefix VHS and then assign a Dewey #
(since it not an entirely fictional work but teaches math skills). When
looking at the California public libraries catalog, there is s Dewey number
assigned of 741 but then when going to specific library catalogs, they have
assigned VHS Cyber (1st few letters of title). I have the same dilemna with
the PBS series Liberty Kids. Do I use a Dewey Number or 1st few letters of
title. Can you help? How do you arrange your videos in your library? Do
you use the 1st few letters of the title for all videos or do you use Dewey
#s for non fiction or videos that teach skills?

I will post a hit if there is interest.
Thanks,
Melissa
