Our middle school students love Stuck in Neutral by Terry Trueman.

Fourteen-year-old Shawn McDaniel, who suffers from severe cerebral palsy and
cannot function, relates his perceptions of his life, his family, and his
condition, especially as he believes his father is planning to kill him.

Sorry to post to the group, but my message to Betty bounced as "unable
to deliver the message, but did not report a specific reason":

How about:

Show me no mercy : a compelling story of remarkable courage / Robert
Perske.
Paralyzed in an accident that kills his wife and daughter, Andy
Banks, a bus driver, struggles to overcome his handicap and to keep his
teenage son with Downs Syndrome from being institutionalized.

Don't stop the music / Robert Perske. (cerebral palsy)

Crazy lady! / by Jane Leslie Conly.
As he tries to come to terms with his mother's death, Vernon finds
solace in his growing relationship with the neighborhood outcasts, an
alcoholic and her retarded son.

The window / Jeanette Ingold.
When she comes to live with relatives on a Texas farm,
fifteen-year-old Mandy encounters the grandmother she never knew and
begins to come to terms with her blindness caused by the automobile
accident that killed her mother.

Probably still Nick Swansen / Virginia Euwer Wolff.
        Learning disabilities -- Fiction.

 Tangerine / Edward Bloor.
Twelve-year-old Paul, who lives in the shadow of his football
hero brother Erik, fights for the right to play soccer despite his near
blindness and slowly begins to remember the incident that damaged his
eyesight.

Winning / Robin F. Brancato.

Ellen's case: Lois Metzger. (cerebral palsy)

Izzy, willy-nilly / by Cynthia Voigt.
A car accident causes fifteen-year-old Izzy to lose one leg and
face the need to start building a new life as an amputee

I also have a book called Focus on Physical Impairments, by Nicholas J.
Karolides (c1990), which is part of the Teenage Perspectives Series by
ABC-Clio. It has chapters on:
        Physical Impairment
        HearingImpairment
        Communication Impairment
        Cerebral Palsy
        Spina Bifida
        Muscular dystrophy
        Multiple Sclerosis
        Spinal Cord injury
Psychosocial, physical, and physiosocial aspects of neuromotor
and neuromuscular dysfunctions
        Epilepsy

Each chapter has a section on resources, and each resource section has a
section on fiction (8-9 pages, 4-5 annotatations on a page),
autobiographies and biographies (3-4 p.), nonfiction books, articles,
nonprnt resources, and organizations to contact. Perhaps you could
locate the book via ILL, or if you wanted a certain chapter's fiction
section, I could perhaps copy it and fax it to you. Let me know.

         Bonnie

Our gifted 6th group Language Arts teacher is looking to change books
for next year and wanted some good fiction titles dealing with living
with disabilities. We have already done "Flowers For Algeron" and "the
Miracle Worker". I have "View From Saturday" and "Freak the Mighty" but
they are on a slightly lower reading level than we are looking for. Any
suggestions?
