[LM_NET] OT: travel across country - from NY to CO

Hello all,

As I figure we are a wonderfully diverse group and live all over the  
US (and more!), I am hoping to get some local advice.

We (husband, two dogs, and me) will go from near Buffalo, NY to  
Denver, CO  - via these states/areas:

      -> Cleveland, OH -  South Bend, IN - Chicago, IL - Des Moines,  
IA - Lincoln, NE  (basically along route 90 and then 80).

So.. the questions I have are:
- can you tell me great places to visit?
- and preferably a bunch where dogs can go too?
- as we are country lovers - we'd prefer settings like the covered  
bridges in Madison county or places that aren't crazy with  
tourists... this is possible right?  :0)
- if you know of great hotels that allow two dogs to stay, please let  
me know about those too.
