I moved all my *subject specific* reference books into the regular NF
sections in 3 middle schools, and it was great. Only the general
encyclopedias, almanacs, and Encyclopedia of World Biography were kept
in a separate REF section. It streamlined the data-searching,
improved the ROI for those expensive (sets of) books, and gave kids
much more incentive to browse in different areas of the library.
Everything could be borrowed (overnight if there was in high demand
for that particular resource).
Doing this also helped with budget requests, since it was obvious that
the *entire* collection was being used.
