I'm afraid I have to agree with David on this one. Mail that is addressed to
you at a place of business or at a school is different from mail that is
addressed to you at home. I'm no lawyer, but I think that since the school
owns the mailboxes, they have the authority to control what goes in them,
just as they do with email. And if we're talking about a magazine that was
purchased with school funds, you are simply the administrator of the
materials, not the owner. I know of districts that have cracked down on
personal business via school email. I think print mail may fall under the
same kinds of rules. I don't, however, believe that "anyone" in the school
could make such decisions about the mail. I think it would have to be a
person of authority such as a principal or his/her agent acting on the
principal's instructions.

wait, tell me that you aren't implying that -anyone- in the school can
decide what MAIL goes in our box and what doesn't? if it is addressed to
me, or to the library, then *I* get to decide if I want to read it or not,
but no one else can decide that. It would seem to me that mail tampering is
mail tampering whether it is done at my house or at my place of business.
Federal offense on any level. unless someone has some legal statute that
defines a difference.

this in light of the large censorship discussion we just had? someone else
once again gets to decide what goes to the library and what doesn't?
