When I read SI's comments, I found this statement: "Those institutions
that didn't receive an issue can request it either through a toll-free
customer-service number or the web site
<http://www.SI.com/customerservice>, he said; already some have done so
through their serials vendor."

I think that SI is tired of libraries complaining about the issue. A few
years ago they offered an opt-out program, and quite a few of us took
advantage of that. Personally, I'd just as soon they dropped the whole
issue, but I suspect that then they would have other people complaining.
Once you start down a slippery slope it is nearly impossible to climb
back up, and now, no matter what SI does, they will have people unhappy
with them.

I'm not sure that the issue is appropriate for anyone, but even several
years ago it was NOT appropriate for a school library, and I always
destroyed it. When SI offered the opt out a few years ago I was pleased,
because they did extend the subscription by one issue. I've been in
libraries since 1988, and I've rarely had anyone actually ask for it. I
have had it stolen from my mailbox a few times, though.
