Thanks to everyone who replied to my questions! You were a big help!!

When asked what they are most proud of about their library program here's
what some said:

. I'm most proud of Colton High's subject strengths in our book
collection; especially social sciences, biographies, literature, U.S.
history. Larry

. I am most proud of my library, not necessarily program, because it
is accessible, friendly, warm. Everyone is welcome in it and sometimes it is
so noisy that I was once prompted to write an e-mail to our staff. I said
that I loved that they're here, enjoying themselves, visiting, whatever but
that there are days when I expect the dancing girls to trip through and a
few circus animals as well. I asked them to try to keep the noise level just
a little lower. One of our young male teachers still laughs and tells me
that he's waiting for the dancing girls. When are they coming? I am also
most proud of my library because I have books that kids actually want to
read! Our high school students love adult authors and others. I put
announcements in our daily bulletins to entice them in to read Twilight, New
Moon, Shattering Glass, and many others. I also choose a book, such as one
in the 700s, then give away an appropriate prize. For that one it was a
brand new magnetic dartboard game. Sometimes it's a big candy bar. I also do
a quote of the week and give prizes to the winners. I do other promotions as
well. Our kids are reading good fiction and liking it. Thanks for asking!
Marilyn

. My web page, to help students access our materials. It is
continually a work in progress, but it is used daily by our students.
Shelley

. Kids love to come to the library. Erin

. I'm most proud of making the district understand how important a
media specialist is in each school. We are now integrating technology into
our curriculum, teaching information literacy skills, working on teaming.
The lack of funds have been a challenge but I've accomplished a lot for
having no money.
Mary

. The library is a place where students feel welcome, are willing to
be challenged and where staff can come to collaborate and get resources.
Suzanne

. My school is in an affluent area of the metropolitan Washington DC
area. Students in my school have so much, delivered to them as soon as they
wish for it. My most pressing priority is to integrate the library program
with the curricula in the school, especially by collaborating with teachers.
But as important is helping our students see and appreciate the value of
literature -- whether they find it online or in print.
Susan

. I am most proud of the relationship I have been able to develop
with the students and with the staff. I feel like students and staff enjoy
using the library and come as often as they can. Janelle

. I have a monthly theme and the students earn raffle tickets. I
then draw names for each grade level. All students who participated receive
a nice bookmark (from Demco type) and one student from each grade level wins
a free book. (One raffle ticket for one book or one raffle ticket for every
5 chapters in a chapter book) A program I borrowed from two reading
specialists in our district. . . on Wednesday morning I have a Books at
Breakfast Time from 7:30 am to 8:20 am. I read aloud new picture books or
somewhat short chapter books to 3rd and 4th graders. I tell them that they
are the first students in the whole school to hear the books. I only read
brand new books to them. They bring a breakfast treat and eat while I read.
It is a relaxing, fun time for all. We have great discussions and I actually
think that it is the epitome of the learning process. The books spark
questions that lead to highly interactive discussions among the students and
sometimes require further research. Very serendipitous. Joyce

When asked what their most pressing priority in the LMC is some stated:

. My most pressing priority is the effort to obtain compact shelving
for our Text Book Central room.
Larry

. My web page, to help students access our materials. Shelley

. Getting books they will love into the hands of kids. Erin

. My most pressing issue is funding. We have no budget for the
library and haven't since 2001. The books on my shelf are from the 60's and
70's. We need up-to-date resources. Mary

Suzanne

. #1 -- collaborating with all teachers on meaningful information
literacy projects

#2 -- keeping the library collection current and aligned with the curriculum
Susan

. Most pressing priority. . . talking and planning with teachers to
make certain that I am purchasing the materials they need and what the
students need. It is very difficult to find the time. Joyce
