Thank you for the words of encouragement and advice.

I will take the suggestions to promote in different avenues, outside my own
community.

  It's just so maddening.

A while back, i used to do these babysitting workshops. I had a nurse from a
local hospital, a police officer for the safety segment, a chil;dren's librarian
talk about books they could read, how to entertain the children they babysat.

I offered a certificate to those who came to both sessions and stayed to the end.
I explained, painstakingly, at the start that I would be passing a sheet around at
the end of each of the two classes. Only those people whose name appeared on BOTH
sheets would get a certificate.

I had one mother drop off her two daughters. She left. Ten minutes later, some
boys showed up at the door. These two girls got up, as noisily and disruptfully as
possible and left with them. The next class, they never showed.

Nearly a year later, this mother shows up at my desk wanting her girls'
certificates. Of course, I told her that I mad certificates for all students whose
names were on BOTH lists. When I told her that her girls left after ten minutes
into the first class she called me a liar, she called my deputy director.

I mean, really, she waited nearly a year to come get the certificates. She
demanded to SEE the sign-in sheets, which, of course, by that time I'd thrown out.

I have a teen movie night that kids seem to think is a chance to come strolling
into, disrupt the movie for the ones who did show up, grab cans of pop and leave.
RUDE RUDE RUDE!!!

I had to put a sign up on the door that this is not a free food and pop givewaway
and that anyone more than five minutes late would not be admitted because they
disrupt the movie for others. Then I get calls from parents complaining that I
didn't let their kids in, 45 minutes into the movie. The parents seem to think that
just because they dropped their kids off, it means that they arrived in the meeting
room on time and behaved themselves in a decent manner.

It just seems I can't win.
