I admit to being at my wits end.

I am the Teen services librarian at the Euclid Public Library, a first ring
racially diverse suburb of Cleveland, OH.

I have partnered with the Cleveland Playhouse to create an exciting and valuable
program for high school aged youth--a Performance Poetry Workshop that will be
taught by a poet and playwright from New York City.

It consists of a series of ten workshops to help the kids find their voice and
develop their work, a free performance of Ella at the Cleveland Playhouse, the
chance to perform on stage at the Playhouse, and a final poetry slam at the library.

The response from the teachers at the nearby high school was great--many offered
extra credit for kids who signed up, they plugged it in the classrooms, handed out
my flyers.

Still, response has been dismal. I'm very disheartened. This program would cost
students an arm and a leg if the library and the Playhouse were not doing it.

If you're in the Cleveland area and have/know kids who might be interested,
please refer to my teen programming page at:

Any advice to get this program filled? Parents complain that their kids have
nothing to do, but they DO have things they can participate in and don't seem
interested.
