Dear LM_NET Colleagues,
LM_NET postings will continue through any and all holidays,
vacations and
"off-time". Please take note: summer will be upon many of us
very soon, so
I want to point out two options to consider, with respect to
LM_NET's
continuing postings.
Here is some information about the differences between
changing your
LM_NET settings to NOMAIL, and choosing to SIGNOFF.
NOMAIL allows you to suspend delivery of LM_NET mail, and
you remain a
member, and can post or restart delivery of your mail at any
time.
SIGNOFF means that you drop your subscription to LM_NET, and
must
resubscribe.
Both options are explained below.
* * * * Temporarily Stopping (and Re-Starting) Mail From
LM_NET * * * *
If you want to stop receiving mail from LM_NET for a period
of time and still
remain a member of LM_NET, all you have to do is send a
specific message (as
explained below) to the listserv computer which handles
LM_NET mail.
Send the message to this address: listserv@listserv.syr.edu
In the body of the message, on the first line, type the
following:
set lm_net nomail
To restart your LM_NET mail, send to the same address, the
following:
set lm_net mail
Please note: One more thing. The listserver will ask for a
confirmation,
so please be ready to respond with a simple "OK" reply.
How to quit/sign off from LM_NET....
In the event that you want to quit/sign off from LM_NET....
1. Send these words in the first (and only) line of a
message:
signoff lm_net
*Please do not include any other words
in the
message, including signature files!
2. Send your signoff message to:
listserv@listserv.syr.edu
and you will be dropped.
(No other words are necessary.)
Important Note for Netscape Mail Users:
Netscape and perhaps some other graphical e-mailers
require
confirmation. The Listserv software recognized that Netscape
and certain
other e-mail software allows easy faking of return
addresses, so Listserv
has built in a response confirmation required checking
system for all
signoff requests from such e-mailers. In this case, please
allow time to
reply to the automated message that you will receive very
soon after
requesting to sign off!
P L E A S E do _NOT_ send the message to LM_NET. It will
go to 11,000+
members of the discussion group, creating ill will and
consternation among
our happy members.
Send it ONLY to: listserv@listserv.syr.edu
If you are unable to sign-off alone, contact the LM_NET
moderator
and ask to be removed (pmilbury@iis.syr.edu
I will do it as soon as it is humanly possible.
Glad to have you with us on LM_NET!
