Turner Movie Classics channel showed 4 Nancy Drew movies that were made in the
thirties this weekend. Several times Nancy used the phrase....I'll bet you
twenty-three eighty that..... Does anyone know if this was a popular phrase at
that time? Why does she choose the amount 23.80? I wonder if this phrase is used
in the books or if it was added to the screen play. One of the movies that she
used the phrase in was The Hidden Staircase. Any ideas?
