[LM_NET] Hit Online Portfolios

It seems as though I am not the only one interested in this topic.  Thank you 
to all who responded.

I have been interested in the thread regarding online portfolios.  I am 
required to hand in a portfolio each year until I am tenured.  I love the 
idea of 
an online type - I work in an elementary school and some of the non-tenured 
teachers have gone over the edge with them creating a scrapbook type of 
document. 
I don't see them that way.  I see them as a professional document and wish 
to keep it in that format.  

Here are my questions:
How do I go about putting it online?  Are there templates I can use?  Are 
they free or do I pay for them?  Where do I go?

I created an electronic portfolio a few years ago as part of a 
class.  You can view it here:

I did mine as a set of web pages and used Front Page to create 
it.  Any web page creation program would work including DreamWeaver 
or one of the various freeware or shareware programs.  You would need 
space for hosting it.  I don't know if AOL does any of that.  The 
other option is to do it and burn it to a CD.  Another option is to 
do a Powerpoint.

You'll notice mine hasn't been updated for a while.  It's one of 
those things I should do, but haven't gotten around to.  Since I'm at 
the other end of the spectrum and looking toward retirement, it's not 
quite on top of my priority list.  You may wish to create yours to 
address state/national standards.

I'm currently taking a online professional development course called 
Dreamweaver for Teachers through the Global Classroom

The project that we have to complete is an electronic portfolio.
In the portfolio we have to include our Teaching Philosophy, 3 technology 
integration projects and a student resources page.

I took the course to learn how to use Dreamweaver, web development software.  
This electronic portfolio is something that I can use for my evaluation next 
year.

There are plenty of sites that offer free web site hosting and they have 
instructions for making a website if you don't have any kind of web development 
software.
Check with your Internet Service Provider to see if they offer web space for 
you to post your portfolio.

Your message caught my eye.   I think it's fantastic that your school 
requires a portfolio-- lots of work, I'm sure, but you will be proud of what you do.
I teach an online class for the University of Wisconsin-Stout titled 
"Advocacy and Emerging Issues for media Specialists"    One aspect of the class is 
a 
portfolio and students are able to create one that reflects their real life 
work.   They can create a web page, PowerPoint--whatever they want.

There is an online service called ePortfolio which I was actually required to 
use by the program I got my library media endorsement through.  I believe it 
was $35 a year, and the specific site we went to was www.chalkandwire.com
 
For us, the base address was followed by a back slash and our schools 
initials, I don't know how you would go about accessing it for a personal web 
portfolio.
 
I allowed by account to expire (only about two weeks ago!) because I haven't 
used it lately, but I'm thinking about renewing it if I end up in job 
searching again or if my current school decides to use portfolios as part of our 
evaluation process.  Since I am at a charter, the evaluation process is a little 
different.
