I'm hoping (and betting) that Joyce is correct in her statements....and
because I also believe that these new technologies (blogs, wikis, and
podcasts) are the areas where we need to become "educational leaders" by
teaching others how they CAN be used effectively in education.

In fact, I've just submitted a grant proposal for a collaborative project
with one of my science teachers. One of the points that I used within the
grant was the implimentation and development of a wiki that students would
be creating to post updates on their science projects, experiments, and
reviews of materials (in class activities). Students would also be
podcasting for our library's website in order to gain interest from parents,
teachers, and other students in the area of science. The interesting thing
that happened after we submitted the grant was when both the science teacher
and I received emails from the first-round grant readers offering great
comments about our "innovative thinking" in the use of "new communication
technologies" with students---the science teacher told me that this was
"unusual to hear such positive comments from these individuals." They loved
it and encouraged us to move the grant along to the next level (where we'll
learn if it will be funded.)

We are keeping our fingers and toes crossed that we receive the grant. It's
a small one worth about $5,000---but we'll be purchasing new books, new
equipment, and introducing our students to the use of "new technologies" for
themselves, their parents, and students throughout our school (and the
district).

By the way....the students who will be creating the wiki and doing the
podcasts will be 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. I'm grabbing this technology
now....because NO ONE else is doing it.
