[LM_NET] MID: read aloud racial issues

One of my literacy teachers sent me the following email:  

I'm trying to come up with a book, quick, goood read-a-loud about race relations. 
Like the idea that this book (Mergers by Steven Layne) is fantasy since I don't 
generally read that genre. Not wanting non-fiction already reading a lot in class. 
And
don't want titles that kids might find themselves.

If you have other titles besides Merger that might fit this description for a 7th 
grade read-aloud, please let me know.  Thanks!
