Please excuse any cross-posting:
Elizabeth Downs and I are co-authoring a book for Neal-Schuman Publishers
tentatively titled, “Policies for School Library Media Managers: A Sourcebook
of Models and Resources Policies for School Library Media Centers”.
Our intent is to provide a book for school librarians that describes the whats,
whys and wherefores of library policy, and then provides sample forms used to
implement those policies (e.g. selection/reconsideration; web publishing;
evaluation of staff, etc.) An accompanying CD will include examples of all the
forms which the reader may edit and customize to fit their individual needs.
Topics will include administration, collaboration, technology, teaching and
learning, information access and delivery, community connections, personnel,
etc.)
We are interested in having as wide a variety of real-world policies and forms
available as is possible. Of course, all contributions will be credited in the
book.
Many such policies and forms are now posted on the web, especially those
written at the District level. If your District’s policies are available
online, would you please send the URL?
But in many cases, the really interesting, policies/ forms may be those you
have created to meet the unique needs of you own media center (scheduling,
planning with teachers, checking out formerly unknown pieces of equipment—
laptops, flash drives—for students.) We would love to use examples of those
forms which might help other librarians keep from having to “re-invent the
wheel.” So again, if you could reply with a URL or attach a copy of the
policy/form, we would be most appreciative. When possible, please include the
contact info for the person from whom permission to publish requests should be
sent.
Please contact me at: shoeblue@mchsi.com or call: 319.338.4361 if you’d like to
discuss more particulars.
Thanks,
Joel Shoemaker, Teacher Librarian
