[LM_NET] HIT: OT: Target: "Sage on the Stage"

My original question: Does anybody know where the phrase "sage on the
stage" comes from?

I had several suggestions for a source.  The earliest mention of the
phrase seems to come from Jamie MacKenzie.  Several LM_Netters sent me
this answer, and directed me to www.fno.org.
