Okay, I think he gives away the problem in this sixth sentence!

If he's sitting at the reference desk, it's no wonder that the books are
gathering dust. He needs to be working with teachers and students and
other school community members, actively designing collaborative projects
that employ both technology AND the books! He could also be booktalking
them, hosting Friday books-and-latte cafes, sponsoring book clubs
(including graphic novel-reading discussion groups), raising a book review
squad, actively working with his former English department to engage kids
in books and reading, etc. etc. He's got a start with that book display,
for sure, but then he says:
>While I wait for nibbles on these and other books . . .
No, no, no! Don't sit and wait for nibbles. Instead, pursue those readers
(even the ones who don't yet know they are readers). Oh, and don't forget
the technology!
