Our IT department has no library or pedagogical background. They
block websites with no teacher/media specialist input or review. We
are told that we may have access to blocked sites only if we can
prove that they are necessary to a particular lesson. If the site is
not absolutely vital to our ability to do our job, then unblocking it
is not justified. Whole, useful swathes of the world-wide web have
been excised...
Ah well, my reply has taken on qualities of a vent - apologies!
