That's exactly what I do with mine! And I move him around every other week or so.
They students with whom I have shared the book get a kick out of looking for him,
so I have to be very "clever" and really hide him sometimes!
Speaking of the Shelf Elf - I had my Shelf Elf costume all ready to go for Book
Character Dress Up Day, aka Halloween - and then my administration decided on a Go
Orange theme instead. I actually found a company online that makes the jester
hats - in the same shade of blue, and another company that sells the striped
stockings, and elf shoes at a costume shop. Then I found peel and stick black
letters at the craft store to stick on the hat - sewed up some pants and a vest and
I was ready. Oh well, maybe next year!
