I am getting more requests for a hit than ideas. I was wondering if some of
you could run some circ reports on non-fiction, like the excellent list for
the top secondary reads posted by Jo Lewis awhile back (fiction but for Dave
Pelzer's books). I do think high school students will still read
non-fiction books as recreational reading. I will compile the results and
post a hit.
I ran reports in my catalog and came up with the following top checkouts
(keep in mind my collection is in need of improvement!)
000s-Guiness Book of World Records
100s-Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul
200s-no clear winner--numerous mythology books
300s-History of the U.S. Marine Corps (ROTC program here is Marines)
400s-Rhyming Dictionary of the English Language
500s-Kingfisher Science Encyclopedia
600s-Slowcooker Magic in Minutes (this one mystifies me)
700s-Draw 50 Cars, Trucks, and Motorcycles
800s-Readings on the Canterbury Tales (English assignment)
900s-A Place to Hide / Jayne Pettit
I am thinking to add more current biographies, something on the U.S.S.
Indianapolis (couldn't keep that on the shelf when I had a middle school
library) and some of the other great suggestions I have received so far,
which I will post in the hit.
