Colleagues, we seek your collective wisdom!
How do you arrange and shelve/locate your picture books and can you briefly state
your rationale?
We are a 6-8 Middle School that will be split next year as we reconfigure schools
to a 7/8 Middle School
and a 5/6 Intermediate School. Presently, as it was in place before my arrival,
Picture Books are
identified with a colored sticker and shelved in a separate location by TITLE,
although their call
numbers have regular FIC or NF labels. There are Fic and NF picture books shelved
in this area. The
catalog record indicates picture book, but not everyone pays attention to that. On
our regular shelves
there are also sometimes books that could fit this category. As the two schools
split the collection, now
would be the time to change our arrangement or location if we choose to. I have
worked in many
schools that split PICS from regular fiction and also have completely intershelved
them within the
regular collection.
I will of course produce and share a hit of the responses received to this Target
question.
Sincerely
Kathleen Fencil
