The problem is that it seems that being effective users of
information and ideas it the last thing that many want students to
become. In fact, it is quite the opposite. NCLB, and it is what is
driving all public education and much private, is not at all about a
broad range of information and ideas. Instead it is about producing a
compliant, order following work force that won't question or stand up for
their personal interests. They want an electorate that will believe
obvious lies and compliantly sign up to fight wars of imperialism. For
god's sake they even want to eliminate evolution from the curricula.
