I have a German teacher who wants to show a DVD which is encoded for Region 2.
According to the information I found at Amazon.com, this DVD won't play on most DVD
players sold in our country, since they're encoded to play Region 1 DVDs (see
explanation below). Does this also mean we won't be able to use a laptop to play
this DVD? Or does anyone have any suggestions about how we can play this DVD,
assuming the teacher can get one, without spending $200 for a multi-region DVD
player. This is all new to me.
Thanks!
DVD Region Encoding
There are currently 6 global region codes that identify specific DVDs that are
compatible with the players typically sold in that region. The majority of all
current titles play in only one specific region unless otherwise noted. Most of the
DVDs sold by Amazon.com are encoded for Region 1 (U.S. and Canada) only and may not
work on DVD players in other countries. Listed below are the six regions.
U.S., U.S. Territories, Canada, and Bermuda
Japan, Europe, South Africa, and the Middle East, including Egypt
Southeast Asia, East Asia, including Hong Kong
Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Mexico, Central America, South America,
and the Caribbean
Former Soviet Union, Indian subcontinent, Africa, North Korea, and Mongolia
