I have a global studies teacher who is doing a project with students (which
they will share as a jigsaw activity), where students begin researching a
region of the world, and a theme. His description:
"students would be in groups of 5 or so, and each student would research a
theme for that region. The point is for them to learn both geography, and
chronology. They will make a map of what's going on in their region with
their region group, and create a timeline of what went on for their theme
groups. For the themes, the
idea is they construct a narrative of history such as "the history of the
world is the history of technology," or "the history of the world is the
history of social inequality."
The regions are: Africa, Middle East, Europe, Americas, East Asia, and South
Asia
themes are:
technology
social ineqality/classes
nature/natural disasters/disease
ideas/religions/beliefs
wars/governments/states
I am new to this school, and so haven't had a lot of time to check out the
resources available. I know that more than just the World Book and Lands
and People will be required for such a project.
I would appreciate and and all suggestions of materials that would make this
project successful -- books, databases (we have access to some great ones
through the public library), and specialized websites.
Thanks in advance!
